Departing Cairns you will go as far north as Cooktown and experience the famous Bloomfield Track.   • 1 DAY 1 CAIRNS - PORT DOUGLAS (D)

    Your adventure begins in Cairns today, where we meet you on arrival and transfer you to your resort in Port Douglas. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to spend at leisure. You might like to go for a dip in one of the resort’s many pools, or head into Port Douglas for a wander through town. This evening, a relaxed welcome dinner provides the perfect opportunity for you to meet your fellow travellers.

  • 2 DAY 2 PORT DOUGLAS - MOSSMAN GORGE - COOKTOWN (B L D)

    After breakfast, enjoy a town tour of Port Douglas, then head into the impossibly lush rainforest of Daintree National Park. Travel to Mossman Gorge in Daintree National Park and set off on the Ngadiku Dreamtime Gorge Walk, led by local Indigenous guides. Start with a smoking ceremony, before journeying along private, gentle tracks visiting culturally significant sites. Learn about traditional hunting and gathering techniques, hear stories of the Dreamtime and gain a deeper understanding of how the Indigenous people have lived off the land here for thousands of years.

    Later, drive north to Cooktown, where you will visit the historic cemetery and take in the town’s highlights, including its picturesque wharf. Near here was where Captain James Cook beached the Endeavour in 1770.

  • 3 DAY 3 COOKTOWN - BLOOMFIELD TRACK - DAINTREE NATIONAL PARK (B L D)

    View the James Cook Historical Museum this morning, before a visit to the striking Nature’s Powerhouse gallery in Cooktown’s Botanical Gardens. Afterwards, depart Cooktown, heading south to a lookout over the massive granite boulders of Black Mountain. Then you will join the Bloomfield Track on the way back to the Daintree, with a stop at the cascading Wujal Wujal (Bloomfield) Falls. The Bloomfield Track, one of Australia’s most iconic outback roads. Travel through dense sections of rainforest, tackling steep climbs and several challenging creek crossings.

  • 4 DAY 4 DAINTREE NATIONAL PARK - CAPE TRIBULATION (B D)

    Visit Lot 157 for a guided interpretive walk. This freehold property is located on Cape Tribulation Road in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest and is currently in the process of being purchased by the not-for-profit foundation, Rainforest 4. Purchasing the land will allow Rainforest 4 to add this area of rainforest to the Daintree National Park and World Heritage Area, providing the highest available level of protection and preventing the rainforest from being developed into housing. Building more houses on properties like Lot 157 would further fragment the rainforest and for that reason, buyback of land is vitally important. While here, you’ll learn about the incredible conservation efforts taking place and admire the unique flora, including the iconic fan palm. After exploring the property, be given the opportunity to take part in an important tree planting project led by a local reforestation expert. You’ll also hear about the significance of the Daintree Lowlands from a local Indigenous group.

    Afterwards, continue to Cape Tribulation, named by Cook after his ship ran aground on what is now named Endeavour Reef. Explore Cape Tribulation and its spectacular beach today, the only place in Australia where two World Heritage-listed phenomena meet – the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. And to top off your day, try some of the exotic flavours created by Daintree Ice Cream Company after visiting their extensive tropical fruit orchard.

  • 5 DAY 5 WOODLEIGH STATION - MOUNT SPURPRISE (B L D)

    Travel to the authentic cattle station of Woodleigh Station for lunch, which has been family-owned for five generations. Continue to Undara Volcanic National Park and set out on a guided discovery of the intriguing lava tubes. The mysterious lava tubes and caves are the result of a massive volcanic eruption that occurred 190,000 years ago. The Undara tubes are some of the longest in the world, and are home to a unique array of native Australian plants and animals.

    Paronella Park is a Spanish fantasy brought to life in the north Queensland bush. He planted thousands of trees, built a castle, a grand staircase, receptions rooms and more. Today’s buildings sit in a magical, lush setting of great charm. This evening, enjoy a relaxing sunset dinner cruise in Cairns.

Additional Information

Climate Winter in the tropical north is the dry season and temperatures will be mild with low humidity. Through the months of September and October, the temperatures become increasingly warmer.

Fitness to Travel A good level of fitness and health is required to participate on holiday packages. In some destinations there are extensive sightseeing excursions by foot which includes the climbing of stairs and walking on uneven surfaces. Mobility is needed boarding or alighting coaches and trains.

Single Travellers A limited number of single rooms may be available at time of booking. Single rooms may be smaller than twin or double bedded rooms and may have a single bed. Single supplements apply

Children under 12 years are not recommended to participate on a coach tour. Children under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.

 Extras Airfares (unless stated), airport taxes, laundry, food not on the regular table d’hôte menu, drinks may or may not be included as indicated in your itinerary, excess baggage, Wi-Fi (unless stated), fuel surcharges and optional excursions not specified in the itinerary. Extra overnight accommodation is not included at the start or end of the tour if not specified in the itinerary. Airport Transfers Airport transfers are included on the first and last day of the tour as indicated by the itinerary or when booking pre or post tour accommodation with your tour.

Luggage Limits Land touring is conducted in 4WD vehicles with limited luggage capacity. Each passenger is requested to limit their luggage to one small/medium soft bag or suitcase weighing no more than 16kg (35 lb approx) and with dimensions of no more than 66cm length x 35cm width x 32cm height. Cameras, make-up bags etc should be carried separately. Should you have excess luggage, it is your responsibility to organise for this to be forwarded to your final destination.

Clothing and What to Bring Clothing and footwear should be casual, comfortable and suited to tropical conditions.

  • Clothing – shorts, trousers, shirts, swimwear, hat, sunglasses, a jacket and a change of warm clothes in case of inclement weather are advisable.
  • Footwear – some form of fast-drying wet-shoe would prove useful.
  • Personal – sun protection, insect repellent, medications, toiletries, (overseas travellers should bring a suitable adapter). Don’t forget to bring your video or camera along with plenty of film & spare batteries (recharge facilities are available).
  • Money and/or credit card for personal expenses such as drinks, souvenirs and optional extras.

Smoking Government regulations forbid smoking in tourist coaches, however frequent stops are made for those wishing to smoke. Smoking is not permitted in hotel rooms. Requests for smoking/non-smoking rooms will be passed on to hotels but cannot be guaranteed.

Travel Insurance is not included in your holiday package. For your protection, you are required to purchase comprehensive travel insurance that includes (without limitation) coverage for the full cost of your holiday package, medical expenses, loss of luggage, land content and airfare charges that may occur due to cancellation, impossibility of performance or other frustration, disruption, loss of deposit or strikes, and provide while travelling.

Disruption to Itinerary Arrangements Itineraries are intended as a guide only and are subject to alteration without notice. Alterations may be necessary for various reasons including, without limitation, road or weather conditions, strikes or other reasons beyond reasonable control.

Booking Terms and Conditions

Be aware that some confirmed bookings are not refundable if cancelled, and also may not be transferable to another date or otherwise changed. Alternatively, a change may only be permissible subject to payment of an additional fee or charge. Your entitlement to a refund for cancelled bookings is subject to the relevant Supplier’s terms and conditions. Please note that if we are entitled to a service fee for placing a booking, we will remain entitled to this fee if you cancel the booking or the Supplier fails to provide you with the Product for any reason (other than our default), including in an event of Force Majeure. We will be entitled to deduct our service fee from any refund we receive on your behalf before remitting the balance to you. Suppliers’ fees are outlined in their relevant terms and conditions.

Accordingly, tour operators may, where it is required to do so, suspend or cancel any tour inclusion where that tour inclusion is not available or in the opinion of tour operators, unadvisable, unsafe or unsuitable. During local or national holidays, certain facilities such as museums and restaurants, sightseeing tours and shopping may be limited or not available. Tour operators reserves the right to alter or change the accommodation, carriers or vessels at any time for any reason; and cancel or alter the itinerary and/or tour at any time without notice as Outback Aussie Tours considers necessary for any reason whatsoever including road, weather or traffic conditions, non-performance of suppliers, industrial action, operational conditions and requirements.

  • What medical clearance form do I use for the cargo boat?
    MV Trinity Bay Passengers

    IMPORTANT: Please note that MV “Trinity Bay” requires passengers to complete a Passenger Medical Information Form to advise the crew of any medical issues they may need to be aware of. This information will also be used by medical attendants in the event of a medical emergency or accident.

    If required by Part 1 of the Sea Swift Passenger Medical Form, a GP Fit-to-Travel Clearance is available to print and take to your GP for signature.

  • Is there mobile phone reception and internet cafe access on the tour?
    Digital mobile telephones only operate in Cooktown. Telstra NEXT G telephones work in Cooktown, Laura, Coen, Weipa and Thursday Island. Email access via internet cafes is generally not available. Most phones these days can recieve emails.
  • Is it possible to recharge phones, cameras etc on the tour?
    Telephones, cameras and other electrical devises can be charged using mains power in Cooktown, Musgrave, Coen, Weipa, Bramwell Station and Cape York.
  • What is the policy on alcohol on the tour?
    The Government has imposed very strict alcohol regulations throughout Cape York Peninsula and our company has a permit to carry certain quantities of alcohol and complies with all regulations and laws. Please contact our office for further, more recent information.
  • What is the policy on smoking on the tour?
    As per Government regulations, smoking is not permitted in vehicles. Ample stops provide time for smoking breaks.
  • Where can I store my car and caravan?
    There are a number of places to store your vehicle or caravan. We can give you the details to book directly once your tour dates are confirmed.
  • Are special dietary requirements catered for on the tour?
    If a passenger is on a medically prescribed diet, we will do our absolute utmost to cater suitable meals for that person. Please contact our office to discuss any diet needs.
  • What are the meals provided on the tour?
    Your Guides / Chefs work extremely hard to provide passengers with excellent, wholesome meals. Breakfast consists of a choice of at least 3 cereals, toast and spreads. Lunch has a variety of cold meats and an abundant selection of salad vegetables on rolls or sandwiches. Evening meals begin with happy hour followed by a 2 course meal which could be a grill, roast, casserole, BBQ, fresh fish and appropriate selection of vegetables followed by a tasty dessert.
  • What type of toilet and shower facilities should be expected on the tour?
    Toilets are either flushing or National Park composting type and showers are available most nights and if not, a long, soaking soap free swim in a shallow, safe stream is available.
  • How far do we travel each day?
    These tours are designed to show the very best of Cape York Peninsula. The day normally starts around 8.00am ending approximately 4.00pm covering 300 kilometers per day. During the normal course of the day you will stop for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. The tour also stops at places of interest, towns, communities and any notable flora or fauna features.
  • How many people will be on the tour?
    The maximum number of passengers depends on the seating in the 4WD vehicles which range from 4 to 22 seats.
  • How does the tour run?
    All tours are conducted on a partial participation basis, it generates friendship and conversation. The Tour Leader does all cooking however assistance with vegetable peeling, firewood collection and filling water buckets is greatly appreciated. Passengers assist with washing and wiping and erect their own tents (unless on pre-erected tent camping tour or on accommodated tour) after a demonstration, those less agile will be given assistance.
  • How much luggage am I allowed?
    Baggage space is limited. One soft sided sausage style bag per person measuring approximately 600mm x 500mm x 300mm with a maximum weight of about 10kgs plus one small day pack per person for inside the vehicle. Excess luggage may be stored at your accommodation.

  • How comfortable are the 4WD vehicles and seating used on the tour?
    Vehicle seats are individual, padded bucket seats with lap and sash seat belts. Vehicle suspensions are modified to ride as comfortably as possible to Cape York. A seat rotation is normally done each day.
  • What kind of boats are used on the tour?
    M.V Trinity Bay carries 38 passengers stopping at Horn Island, Thursday Island and Bamaga. The trip normally takes 2.5 days and you will sleep on the boat for 2 nights. Accommodation is in either twin cabins or 3-4 passengers per cabin, all cabins have share bathroom facilities. A licensed bar is on the ship and your trip includes meals as indicated in the tour itinerary.
  • What kind of air planes are used on the tour?
    Generally medium sized air planes with a capacity of 20 to 50 passengers are used. During peak season when services are in demand we occasionally use smaller aircraft carrying 8 or less passengers.
  • Should travel insurance be organised before going on the tour?

  • Should I bring extra spending money for incidentals?
    We suggest about $300 per person. Credit cards and EFTPOS machines are accessible in most places throughout Cape York.
  • What is excluded from the price of your Cape York tour?
    Any costs incurred before or after departure. Meals not specifically mentioned in the itinerary. Any personal items such as newspapers, telephone, alcohol and drinks, laundry, personal and travel insurance. It is HIGHLY recommended that passengers take out travel insurance which specifically covers cancellation fees, most claims arise from either personnel or close-family illness before departure resulting in cancellation charges. We suggest you talk to your car, home or life insurer and purchase a policy that will cover you for cancellation fees in the unlikely event that you need to cancel your Cape York tour.
  • What is included in the price of your Cape York Tours from Cairns?
    If on a camping tour – all camping equipment including tents with a floor built into them, mattresses, National Park fees, land access and usage fees to local communities, all camping fees.
